Actually you can get some seo benefit from your newsletters. I send out several using aweber and the rss feed from my blog.
I post to the blog - and it also goes out to the mailing list. I grow my web content, have an archive for them to read past issues, etc.. SEO traffic signs up for the newsletter while reading the blog...
Nice cycle really.
Not sure how it would work for things related to webmaster stuff, but it works great for some of our reality tv sites.
