yea, I hear ya...
and if I was in some kind of moral position to defend some unique art work or something, then it would be a different matter...
but like the first C&D I got was because of an article I had on an MFA site of mine... the company was being sued by the New York state Attorney General because of some product of theirs that was mentioned in the article... and I really didn't want any part of that...
this last one was a stock photo that a sponsor was using without permission... it took me 2 minutes to change out the iframe with a different one... no big deal... 2 minutes to swap some code is much easier than a lawsuit...
most of these companies are large mainstream outfits and are serious about enforcing their shit... they will take people to court and have in the past...
