Default Brainstorming Session - Ideas for a Mega Site

Ok lets have a nice quick, think what you like, say what you like, even if it may be wrong just say it and we can analyse it later.

You are going to build a mega site.
Ok so content is done on there, its complete, just needs updating etc. for the sake of matters, lets say its selling vodka.

How would you then go about building its pr/serps and general traffic up in order to constiutute it as a mega site?

Brainstorm time
Network of blogs running into it via different i.p.s
Submit it to all the big directories
press release on vodka news website
Traffic trades with other vodka websites

any more brainstorms?

what do you mean 'mega site' ?

do you mean ranking at the top of the SERPs ?

or just a large site with lots of traffic ?

Vodka implies mainstream product. I'd hire a PR firm and do a press release. PR firms maintain an emailing list that would get you listed on more sites than you could think of.

Let's say that PR firm is to expensive. I'd still do a press release outlining the new site/product. Try to find a opt-in email service that will do the email for ya.

Traffic trades presents it's own set of problems, I'd skip it. You need one way links.

Yahoo is kinder about SERP without a ton of back links. SEO optimize and have tons of content the SE will see. You decide whitehat/blackhat here. Long term real content is better.

A known PR firm logo or email envelope with a known PR person will get you more attention. Plus they typically pickup the phone and make a few calls. Seen it all in action, it works.

some good tips PL...

guess I should throw in my 2 cents...

for mainstream... one of the easiest ways would be to crank out some linkbait and get it on digg... services like diggboss help... Matt, if you need a diggboss invite hit me up on icq, I'll see if I can swing you one

yea, you could get your individual reviews dugg... that would help drive more traffic and might get you some more links n stuff... diggboss just helps you get more diggs... it can get you to the front page of digg, but you still need some decent linkbait...

building small feeder sites and blogs that 'run into it' is probably a good idea too...
