ok, I've noticed google seems to be getting a bit testy with pings lately...
probably a long overdue change in the algo considering over 99% of pings are spam anyway... guess it had to happen sooner or later... actually I've been thinking about this for a while... the only solution I see is sending SE bots to your new stuff through links to make sure they crawl, which is going to make it harder to spam... it's not hitting everything... blogger and wp don't seem to be hit as hard... but some of you other sploggers out there might be feeling it... especially on your new stuff... could be they adjusted the freshness part of the algo too... hard to tell for sure from the outside exactly what they're screwing with over there... maybe it's only temporary or just hitting my stuff hard... sometimes they do screw with things just to test new stuff without using it everywhere... anybody else seeing this? |

My few splogs have done quite crappy lately. Enough so that I have even pulled and replaced them this month.
So it's either that I'm to busy to babysit em this month, the pings aren't working, or my topics suck at the moment. Hell - could be all three. |

I'm pretty sure the pings are being hit with a penalty of some sort... my old blogs and splogs that I haven't updated in forever and thus haven't pinged seem to be completely unaffected by this... in fact some of my old stuff that I haven't touched in months has actually increased in traffic and gone up the SERPs - maybe this ping penalty is filtering out enough of the competing splogs to give some of my old stuff a nice boost... hmmmm... |
